Special Interest Group Meeting

Mycoviruses nomenclature

Organisers

Caoimhe Fleming-Archibald and Helen Grogan

Mycoviruses have been found in a wide range of fungal species across all the fungal families.  Many have double-stranded RNA genomes and there is an increasing amount of sequence data being produced and molecular studies being undertaken.  Homology between dsRNA mycovirus sequences to date has been limited and many show more similarity to plant dsRNA viruses than to other fungal viruses.  Mycoviruses can be innocuous, pathogenic or induce hypovirulence of the host species.

This special interest group aims to enable discussion on the increasing information that is becoming available in areas such as taxonomy, epidemiology, gene expression effects within the host, viral transmission, and replication strategies.
